Medical Assisting
Working in doctors’ offices, hospitals, outpatient care facilities, and more, medical assistants are often an important part of medical staff. Medical assistants may take a patient’s vital signs, schedule appointments, record patient histories, and work with diagnostic lab specimens. Our Medical Assisting program in San Leandro can be completed in as few as nine months for a Certificate of Achievement.

Blending patient care with front-office duties, dental assistants play an important role in dentists’ offices. Dental assistants may pass and sterilize instruments, take x-rays, or otherwise support dentists and dental hygienists. From Medicaid to private insurance to self-pay patients, making sure healthcare workers get paid for their services is an important part of the system. This, in addition to the increasing use of electronic health records, has led to the occupation of medical billers and coders. Medical billers and coders help record patient history in a code that can be read on electronic health records and understood by complex medical insurance carriers. They also help physicians and other medical professionals get paid by submitting bills to insurance carriers and following up until those bills are paid. San Leandro Campus’ Career-Preparation Programs
Easy Student Access
Carrington College’s San Leandro campus provides hands-on training in a number of medical programs in the Bay Area of California. Carrington College’s San Leandro campus is located in the Bayfair Mall, conveniently across the street from a Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) stop. So you’re conveniently near shops and restaurants when you’re not studying!
Modern Facilities
The San Leandro campus is a 40,000 square foot facility that offers both degree and certificate programs. The main campus houses 13 classrooms and learning labs including a veterinary technology surgical lab. All programs maintain equipment, supplies and learning resources in the classrooms, including ceiling-mounted LCD projectors and DVDs, as well as computers for student access.
Classrooms Geared for Learning
Outside the classroom, the student success center is equipped with reference materials, textbooks and journals and 30 student computers. The Carrington library website offers online resources and professional organization information.
A Genuine College Experience
The campus has a student testing center, staff lounge, copy/distribution center, conference room and 40 administrative and faculty offices. The campus offers full student service assistance in enrollment services, student finance, and career services.
