If you would like to stay more behind the scenes in a medical setting, medical billing and coding may be right for you. Medical billers and coders help process electronic health records and bills that need to be sent to insurance carriers. Practical nurses are generalists who care for patients and work in many health care areas. They provide basic bedside care, measure and record patients’ vital signs and assist with bathing, dressing and personal hygiene in nursing homes, physicians’ offices or in patients’ homes. Depending on the location in which they work, practical nurses may also develop care plans and supervise the care provided by nursing aides.
